Hi Bill,

1.) chmod 755 j2re-1_4_1_02-linux-i586-rpm.bin  this gives the file
execute permissions.  ("man chmod" for more details)

2.) ./j2re-1_4_1_02-linux-i586-rpm.bin  this will run the script(otherwise
you could execute the script with the fukll path name :

/home/userid/j2re-1_4_1_02-linux-i586-rpm.bin

3.) Agree to license agreement

4.) It will then extract the .bin file to a rpm

5.) install the rpm by typing rpm -iv j2re-1_4_1_02-linux-i586.rpm

6.) have fun with java
