I hope someone out there has a solution to a co-workers problem. ..
Thanks
Issue: Problem configuring DNS
OS: Redhat Linux 9.0
Server name: server
Domain name: campinghounds.com
Objective: Configure the server to resolve DNS entries for domains being
hosted locally with Apache as well as cache and act as DNS for Windows
clients on the network.
Explanation: Using Linux for DNS, Apache, DHCP servers and Domain
Controller for Windows machines. All configure and function fine except for DNS.
Would like DNS to cache for all clients, including itself. Have tried
using examples from the internet without success. Also having issue starting
and stopping the 'named' service. Seems that it takes a reboot before the
service actually restarts correctly. This DNS server is not being used as
a public name server. Most help that I have found explains the zone and
reverse lookup configuration, but does not address how the 'resolv.conf'
should be configured. Also - is there any way to configure properly through the
GUI that is provided for DNS in Redhat??? It will make the files, but
does not seem to complete the task or maybe I am missing something during the
GUI. Can't find much help on that.
