I'm setting up my gentoo system and I have a few questions about some errors I'm seeing that I haven't with other distros.
1) When using hdparm to set my hard drive configurations, I want to enable dma, so I enter
# hdparm -d 1 /dev/hda
but I get the following message...
setting using_dma to 1 (on)
HDIO_SET_DMA failed: Operation not permitted
using_dma = 0 (off)
2) When attempting to start samba, I get the following message...
* Starting samba...
lpstat: Unable to connect to server: Connection refused [ ok ]
I was able to connect to my samba share from another Windows workstation, but it soon was disconnected - don't know the cause yet.
Also, when entering a sambe user I received an error that it couldn't find the passdb file or something like that - I lost the error and I'm going off what I remeber of it.
Thanks for any info.
Mike
