My name is Todd Jahnke and I am the IT Manager for Owens Forest Products.

Network/Help Desk Technician
Job Title: Network/Help Desk Technician
Division: Heritage Veneered Products & Owens Flooring Company
Department: Information Technology
Reports To: HVP/OFC IT Manager
FLSA Status: Exempt
SUMMARY
Maintains operation of computer PC's, servers, and networks and while
provides providing hardware/software support to network end users.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Assembles and configures PC, server, and network components and
associated services.
* Sets up and maintains basic network operations, including assembly of
network hardware, and provides assistance to the network administrator.
* Performs network troubleshooting to isolate and diagnose common
network problems.
* Upgrades network, PC, and server hardware and /software components as
required.
* Installs, upgrades and configures network printing, directory
structures, rights, security, software and files services.
* Provides users with network and PC technical support.
* Responds to needs and questions of users concerning their access of
network resources.
* Establishes network users, user environments, directories, and
security for networks being installed.
* Installs and tests necessary software and hardware.
* Trains end users to operate new or modified programs.
* Develops and maintains user manuals and guidelines.
* Troubleshoots software application problems and works with end users to
devise solutions.
* Installs software products for end users as required.
* Performs other duties as assigned by IT management.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This job has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be
able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or
technical school required; Bachelor's degree preferred; six months to one
year related experience desirable.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business industry specific
periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental
regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and
procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and
respond to questions from others.
OTHER SKILLSAND/OR EXPERIENCE
* Experience building PCs and local area networks.
* Experience working with word-processor, spreadsheet, presentation, and
database software.
* Ability to conduct research into hardware and software-related
issues and products; preference to learn skills needed rather than rely on
vendor support.
* Self-motivated and self-directed.
* Preference for simplicity and reliability of systems over use of the
latest fad.
* Obsessive about concise, professional, accurate system
documentation.
* Flexible and adaptable in regard to learning and understanding new
technologies.
* Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
* Strong, written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
* Keen attention to detail.
* Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
* Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced,
rapidly changing environment.

* Familiarity with wireless networks and devices.
* Knowledge of basic network and system security best practices.
DESIRED SKILLS
* Strong working knowledge of both Linux and Windows platforms and networks.
* Strong working knowledge of current LAN and Internet technologies,
especially TCP/IP.
