It's something that I just knew about for a quite a while. Used to be very
active in the linux community e.g. posting in usenet, message boards, and
mailing lists. When W2K came out, got the MCSE which took most of my free
time. Then I somehow landed a job working on FreeBSD servers (which I'd
never touched before, but they are a thing of beauty). While I kept using
linux personally, I didn't stay on top of the social aspect of it. Been
traveling a lot the past few years. So, when I came back to the WI area,
thought I'd stop by the NEWLUG to see what was happening.

I am of the opinion that the open source apps out there are the greatest
asset. If people are already using programs on Windows that will run on
linux, it is much easier to get them to change operating systems.
Honestly, I don't understand why more businesses don't use OOo. Yes, there
might be some headaches when initially switching. But it won't be any
easier five or ten years from now. And why keep yourself tied to the MS
licensing for all eternity?

Tim
