we'll only have time to focus on SIP but for those of you who like a good
conspiracy bedtime story, take a look at the above link. SIP is the basis
for IMS, but IMS is a mixed blessing as the incumbents' way of keeping you
tied to their tiny little bandwidth apron strings.

i'm pretty sure the internet lifestyle will eventually win over the old
telco/cable monopolies in the access networks. how? i don't know,
especially since the access networks are the only way we have of getting
from our homes and small-to-medium businesses to the rest of the world.
the monopolies own the Last Mile and they're determined to keep it that
way.

but let's take a factual look at SIP and the linux/java platforms that are
likely to be in everyone's hands, laps, desktops. at least that part of
the picture is attractive.
