* topic: thin clients. John McMonagle of Advocap presented. We hope he'll
post his notes.
* next month's topic: possibly server clusters. anybody want to make a
presentation, please step up now while there's still an opening. October
will be here before you know it. tempus fugit.
* The meeting was well attended. Proof that the Northeast Wisconsin Linux
Users Group is here to stay.
* ryan took pictures. posted soon.
* A good source for thin clients: Linux Terminal Server Project at
ltsp.org. Also see k12ltsp.org for thin clients in K-12 schools.
* There are other options for thin clients. we discussed them all (well,
maybe we missed a few), some based on the X Window System, others not,
like sunray and the Appliance Link Protocol (ALP) from Sun Microsystems or
Microsoft Terminal Server. Related topics: rdesktop, rdp, xrdp, VNC,
Citrix, NX from nomachine.com. Most of these are discussed at
wikipedia.org.
* For those of you who have Windows applications running on Windows
servers, you can access them on LTSP thin clients via rdesktop and rdp.
The migration path to an open-source Windows-free environment is
relatively painless.
Please add to or edit this list.
