Check to make sure that you didn’t download and install a display driver during the updates. I’ve always found that the display drivers from Windows Update (or just about any other driver for that matter), especially on a laptop tends to cause more problems than the ones directly from the manufacturer. Try rolling back to the previous display driver or installing the latest one directly from the manufacturer’s support site.

I haven’t noticed any problems such problems with any of the XP or Win 7 systems that I have had access to since the updates.

Subject: [Newlug] Losing "focus" on Windows XP since Tuesday...

Have any of you noticed that Windows XP loses “focus” since Patch Tuesday? (this past Tuesday)

Maybe it’s just the two laptops that I’m using on the wireless network at a customer over here in Minneapolis, but I open up an application and start typing, and pretty soon the laptops will “lose focus” on the window I’m working on, and my typing doesn’t get recorded.

I noticed that Windows appear to be refreshing my whole desktop when that happens. I see all my icons blink and refresh themselves. Many icons will turn into white boxes for a second or two, and Windows goes out and refreshes the bitmap on the icon.

Maybe it’s the upgraded version of Microsoft Security Essentials I installed, or maybe it’s something else that’s changed. But it’s driving me crazy. I have to watch the screen constantly when I type and then grab the mouse and click on the window I was working on when I want to bring it back into focus. It happened about 10 times while I was typing this email…

Thanks!
